National Down Syndrome Society Partners with Lyft to Promote Voting Accessibility for Individuals with Down Syndrome
Washington, D.C.- The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) is proud to announce it is partnering again with Lyft to empower the Down syndrome community to exercise their right to vote this election season. Through this partnership, NDSS will provide a discount code for Lyft rides through November 3, ensuring that individuals with Down syndrome can easily access their voting locations.
Members of the Down syndrome community have the right to make their voices heard by participating in the democratic process. NDSS’ partnership with Lyft aims to reduce barriers to transportation that can affect individuals with Down syndrome and their access to polling places and early voting locations.
“Accessible transportation empowers individuals with Down syndrome to exercise their right to vote and participate in elections,” said Kandi Pickard, CEO of NDSS. “We are thankful to Lyft for partnering with us to ensure our community’s voices are heard and represented this election season.”
"Getting to the polls is one of the most meaningful ways we get to shape our shared future, and no one should be shut out of that because they don't have a reliable way to get to the polls," said Jerry Golden, Chief Policy Officer at Lyft. "This program exists because we care about the people behind every ride, and we want every one of them to have the chance to be heard."
