NDSS supports the Reintroduction of the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act

Published on

On April 1, 2025, Senators Cassidy (R-LA) and Cortez-Masto (D-NV), and Representatives Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Davis (D-IL) reintroduced the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act. If passed, this bill would raise asset limits for SSI beneficiaries from $2,000 to $10,000 and eliminate the marriage penalty by allowing married SSI beneficiaries to save up to a combined total of $20,000. By increasing the asset limit, individuals with disabilities, including those with Down syndrome, would have increased opportunity to achieve financial independence and more effectively work, earn, and save for their futures.
