(April 20, 2020) Our Commitment to the Community:
For 25 years, the Buddy Walk® has been much more than just a Walk. It is about local communities coming together to support and celebrate our loved ones with Down syndrome. NDSS believes our Buddy Walk® Organizers and local affiliates are part of our family, and we are strongly committed to supporting them and the work they do.
We are facing a difficult year ahead, and we do not yet know how significant the impact will be or how long it will last. What we do know, is that we must work together and help each other through it. As part of our commitment to supporting local communities during these uncertain times, we are waiving our Buddy Walk® licensing fees for 2020. In allowing for 100% of the proceeds to stay in local communities, approximately $300,000 in additional funds will be available for local programs and services.
While NDSS will continue our critical work tackling national issues, we want to do all we can to support our local communities. Despite the uncertainty ahead, our staff and Board know that – together – we can have a powerful impact for all individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
- Kandi Pickard and the Board and staff of NDSS
