NDSS Supports Virginia House Bill 1924 to Eliminate Subminimum Wage

Published on

Virginia Delegate Patrick Hope introduced House Bill 1924 to eliminate subminimum wage in the Commonwealth of Virginia. According to section 14(c) of the Fair Labor and Standards act of 1938, an employer is permitted to pay an individual with disabilities less than minimum wage. Delegate Hope’s bill bans this practice and ensures all employees of Virginia will be paid at least minimum wage by 2027. The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) strongly supports this piece of legislation and urges the swift passage of HB 1924.

NDSS is working with local and national advocacy groups to advance HB 1924. See our joint press release here.

Constituents of Virginia can take action and urge their delegates to support the bill using our action alert here.
