(May 6, 2020) This has been a very bittersweet time for the NDSS Team. May 1 marked the beginning of a new chapter as Sara Hart Weir transitioned out of her role as President and CEO. First, Sara is a great colleague and has been an unbelievable advocate for NDSS for over a decade. We all know she will go on to do incredible things in the next chapter of her life.
Six years ago, I was on the Board of Directors of the Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Indiana and part of their Buddy Walk® planning committee. Never did I imagine I would be where I am today. I took a huge risk when I accepted my first position with NDSS and my life has never been the same. Today, I am truly grateful to be writing this as the Interim President and CEO.
I want to express my sincere gratitude for everything each and every one of you do for NDSS. Your time and talent have benefited our organization in so many ways. From Buddy Walk’s across the country to our Athlete Ambassador program, none of this would be possible without YOU. Your generosity, advocacy and passion for our mission have been invaluable. Thank you from the entire NDSS team.
Finally, this letter wouldn’t be complete without recognizing the driving force behind my passion for NDSS, my son, Mason. As most of you know, Mason has Down syndrome and we are blessed beyond measure. My family and I want Mason to live a happy and full life and have every experience possible. Mason brought me to this community and he is what fuels me each and every day. I am honored to be in the trenches with each of you fighting the same battles and celebrating the same victories on this amazing journey.
Let’s go!
